Principal’s Message
Welcome to Whitley Secondary School!
Thank you for visiting our website.
It’s been a privilege serving as the 14th Principal of Whitley since its establishment in 1965, building on the strong foundation put in place by those who came before us.
At Whitley, we believe that every young person has a light within them waiting to be discovered, nurtured and shared. Our mission is not simply to prepare students for examinations, but to help them flourish — as Exemplary Leaders with the Heart to Care and the Will to Learn.
As we celebrated our 61st Anniversary this year with the theme “Starry Night”, we reflected on a simple yet profound truth. A single star may shine brightly, but it is the constellation of many stars that captures our imagination and guides generations. Likewise, while every Whitleyan brings unique gifts and aspirations, it is through our shared values, collective purpose and care for one another that we become something far greater than ourselves.
The anniversary was also a time of gratitude. We honour the generations of students, teachers, parents, alumni and partners whose dedication has shaped Whitley into the caring and vibrant community it is today. Their legacy reminds us that every act of kindness, every lesson taught and every life touched leaves a lasting imprint on those who come after us. As beneficiaries of their efforts, we are inspired to pay it forward and leave the school stronger for future generations.
Our vision, A Caring and Learning Community of Leaders, reminds us that leadership is not defined by position or prestige. It is reflected in our everyday choices—to Persevere in the face of challenges, to show Respect, to act with Integrity, to exercise Discipline, and to lead with Empathy. These are the school PRIDE values that shape our character and illuminate the path for others.
We believe that leadership begins with agency—the conviction that each of us has the ability and responsibility to make a positive difference. Here at Whitley, we intentionally create authentic opportunities for students to lead, make decisions, solve problems and serve others. Through these experiences, they learn that leadership is not about waiting for permission to act, but about stepping forward with courage, initiative and a heart to contribute.
In a world that often encourages us to look down at our devices, Whitley encourages our students to look up—to dream boldly, remain curious, and approach life with humility. Like the Artemis II astronauts who looked back at Earth from space in April 2026 and spoke of its beauty and fragility, we hope our students will see beyond themselves, appreciate the interconnectedness of humanity, and recognise that every action, however small, has the power to make a difference.
We also believe that flourishing is a lifelong journey of growth. It does not happen by chance, but through daily habits, meaningful relationships, purposeful reflection and a willingness to embrace challenges. Every lesson, every setback, every act of service and every opportunity to lead helps our students become just a little better than yesterday. In celebrating progress rather than perfection, we nurture resilient learners who view challenges as opportunities to grow and who continually strive to become the best version of themselves. Our dedicated staff, supportive parents, alumni and partners each play a vital part in this journey. Together, we create a community where every student is known, valued and encouraged to discover their own light while helping others find theirs.
As you explore our school, I hope you will see more than our programmes and achievements. I hope you will experience the warmth of our community, the strength of our shared purpose, and our unwavering belief that every young person can flourish.
May every Whitleyan be grateful for those who have gone before us, courageous in shaping the future before us, and committed to growing into leaders who shine not for themselves alone, but for others. For when each of us discovers our own light and chooses to shine for others, together we become a constellation that lights the way for generations to come.
Yours sincerely,
Lynn Koh
