Physical Education
The Physical Education (PE) Department aims to develop students into fit, healthy, resilient, and adventurous individuals. The department believes that PE is integral to the holistic development of every child and seeks to instil lifelong healthy habits in students.
Through the PE curriculum, students learn about overall fitness and wellness, develop games proficiency, and acquire important values such as teamwork, resilience, grit, and sportsmanship through sports and physical activities. In addition to the core curriculum, the department organises a range of robust and engaging programmes to arouse students’ interest and encourage active participation.
Students are provided with opportunities to experience outdoor and adventure-based learning. Modified level camps are conducted for Secondary 1 to 3 students, allowing them to participate in structured outdoor activities in a safe and supportive environment. Secondary 1 and 2 students take part in a three-day camp featuring activities such as kayaking, dragon boating, orienteering, outdoor cooking, and Amazing Race challenges. Secondary 3 students attend Outward Bound camp at locations such as Punggol, East Coast Park, and Pulau Ubin, immersing themselves in outdoor experiences that promote resilience and teamwork.
The department also supports students’ participation in inter-school sporting events. Whitley Secondary School organises the South 7 Cluster Games, providing students with opportunities to compete in sports such as football, badminton, and basketball.
To further promote physical activity and fitness, the school conducts initiatives such as the All-Children Exercise Simultaneous Day@WSS – Mass Dance, with students and staff participating in synchronised activities led by PE and Sports Leaders.
Through sustained participation in PE and co-curricular programmes, students develop an appreciation for outdoor activities and a variety of sports and games. They cultivate teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, and are equipped with the knowledge and habits to lead active and healthy lifestyles beyond their years in Whitley.
